Transportation

Bedford is proximate to several highway networks and is traversed by Route 3, which carries employees from southern New Hampshire to Bedford’s corporate business areas. Bedford is proximate to Route 128 providing easy access to Boston and points north. Within a brief drive, commuters have access to Route 2, Interstate 93, and the Massachusetts Turnpike. Two MBTA bus routes serve Bedford, servicing Hanscom Air Force Base, the Industrial & Office parks in north Bedford and the center of Town. Located within Bedford, Massport’s Hanscom Field is a general aviation airport with two commercial operators providing scheduled daily and charter flights from Bedford.

Bedford is also friendly for “alternative” transportation modes. A walkable town, the main roads are lined with sidewalks, and trails abound. The popular Minuteman Bikeway reaches its terminus in Bedford, completing the journey from Arlington. From there, the Narrow Gauge Rail Trail continues north to the Billerica line, while an unpaved portion of the trail extends to the Old North Bridge in Concord. This Rail Trail is also a part of the Bay Circuit Trail, which will eventually link 34 towns in Eastern Massachusetts.
